Ana Flávia Garcia (1997, Alegrete/RS) é artista visual. Vive e trabalha em Porto Alegre (RS). É bacharel em Artes Visuais pelo Instituto de Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), onde atualmente desenvolve pesquisa de mestrado em Poéticas Visuais. Durante sua formação, estudou na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, em Portugal.
A pintura constitui o eixo central de sua prática. Entre 2018 e 2024, sua produção desenvolveu-se predominantemente no campo da abstração, explorando relações entre gesto, matéria e cor em pinturas de grande formato. Nesse período, o trabalho investigou a construção da imagem por meio de sucessivas camadas e veladuras, nas quais a energia do gesto se articula à densidade e à transparência da pintura.
Mais recentemente, a partir de sua pesquisa sobre espaços liminares, sua investigação desloca-se para a construção de atmosferas ambíguas marcadas por uma sensação de suspensão temporal. Arquiteturas vazias e luzes artificiais passam a organizar composições situadas entre reconhecimento e indeterminação, evocando memórias fragmentárias ou parcialmente construídas.
Seu trabalho dialoga com diferentes momentos da história da pintura e com referências provenientes da arquitetura e do cinema, entre elas Fra Angelico, Matthias Weischer e Albert Oehlen, além do universo cinematográfico de David Lynch.
Participou de exposições coletivas e publicações no Brasil e no exterior. Em 2020 realizou sua primeira exposição individual, Ainda anônimos, no Centro Cultural Erico Verissimo, e, no mesmo ano, recebeu menção honrosa por obra selecionada na Bienal Oswaldo Goeldi. Em 2022 realizou sua segunda exposição individual, Noite da matéria, luz da alma, no Espaço Ado Malagoli (IA/UFRGS).
Suas pinturas integram coleções particulares nos Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Chipre, Portugal, Espanha, França e Brasil.
Ana Flávia Garcia (b. 1997, Alegrete, Brazil) is a visual artist based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts from the Institute of Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), where she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Visual Poetics. During her studies, she also attended the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto, Portugal.
Painting constitutes the central axis of her practice. Between 2018 and 2024, her work developed primarily within abstraction, exploring relationships between gesture, materiality, and color in large-scale paintings. During this period, she investigated the construction of the image through successive layers and glazes, where the energy of gesture interacts with the density and transparency of paint.
More recently, through her research on liminal spaces, her investigation has shifted toward the construction of ambiguous atmospheres marked by a sense of temporal suspension. Empty architectures and artificial light organize compositions that move between recognition and indeterminacy, evoking fragmentary or partially constructed memories.
Her work engages with different moments in the history of painting as well as references drawn from architecture and cinema, including Fra Angelico, Matthias Weischer, and Albert Oehlen, alongside the cinematic universe of David Lynch.
Garcia has participated in group exhibitions and publications in Brazil and abroad. In 2020 she held her first solo exhibition, Ainda anônimos, at Centro Cultural Erico Verissimo, and in the same year received an honorable mention at the Oswaldo Goeldi Biennial. In 2022 she presented her second solo exhibition, Noite da matéria, luz da alma, at Espaço Ado Malagoli (IA/UFRGS).
Her paintings are part of private collections in the United States, England, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain, France, and Brazil.
